Atlanta Councilwoman Mary Norwood and the Neighborhood Housing Coalition are promoting some of Atlanta's intown neighborhoods as "Atlanta's Secret Places" at this weekend's Home Show. Listed below are the neighborhoods (some of them are secret places....while others...the secret was let out of the bag years ago). You can click on the neighborhood to view homes for sale.
Adair Park - Great craftsman style homes...located east of the West End and just south of Castleberry Hill. Great deals here under $100K for an historic home that needs work.
Adamsville - This neighborhood is right outside of 2-85....this one is a hidden gem to me. Check out this article in the AJC about Adamsville.
Capitol View - This neighborhood is located south of downtown between Metropolitan Parkway and Sylvan Road. It has an awesome park, Perkerson Park, located on the southside of the neighborhood.
Capitol View Manor - On the other side of Metropolitan Parkway....this neighborhood can be a secret place to some, but once you find it, you will feel like you are in Virginia Highland. This neighborhood has a beautiful collection of brick bungalows with most under $200K. When talking to the neighbors, make sure you include Manor with Capitol View. There are some great redevelopment plans for Capitol View and Capitol View Manor.
Castleberry Hill - This is the true loft district of Atlanta located just south of Marietta Street. A lot of the lofts really used to be manufacturing plants. This is a great place to find a one-of-kind loft. Plus, there are numerous art galleries and restaurants popping up.
Collier Heights - This neighborhood is located on the westside of Atlanta off of Collier Drive not to be mistaken with Collier Road in Buckhead. Most of these homes are 1950's and 60's brick ranches including some awesome "California" contemporary homes with vaulted ceilings and large windows.
East Atlanta - This is not a secret place any more. Located east of Moreland Avenue, East Atlanta has a vibrant business district including a thriving night life.
East Lake - Think East Lake Country Club - PGA tour. East Lake is located east of East Atlanta before you get to Oakhurst/Decatur. There are some great historic homes in this area.
Kirkwood - Think Hosea Williams Drive which runs between Moreland Avenue and Candler Road just south of Little Five Points/Edgewood. This neighborhood is not really a secret place any more. It has a new, central business district and is convenient to both Decatur and Atlanta.
Oakland City - Oakland City runs south of West End and north of East Point.
Sylvan Hills - Sylvan Hills is the furtherest south of Atlanta's Secret Places. However, it's literally just minutes to downtown Atlanta. The housing inventory includes brick bungalows and some great tudor-inspired homes. It's just seconds to East Point as well.
Venetian Hills - This neighborhood is west of Lee Street and north of Campbellton Road....it sometimes bleeds into West End and Oakland City.
Vine City - Think Georgia Dome...this is the neighborhood right next door. It was the home of the late Coretta Scott King before Oprah bought her a condo in Buckhead. The Atlanta Development Authority has some awesome grants for people buying in Vine City.
West End - West End is located just southwest of downtown Atlanta and has some of the best historic homes in Atlanta...especially on Peeples Street.
Westview - Westview is just north of West End and surrounds the Westview Cemetery. There are some awesome, craftsman style homes in this neighborhood.
